Wes Mayes, OD
Dr. Wes Mayes has been serving northwest Florida for over 10 years, primarily in Crestview, FL. Dr. Mayes joined the team at Mills Eye in 2017, and is now seeing patients in our Pensacola location. Dr. Mayes has specialty expertise in Dry Eyes and Ocular Surface Disease, and pre- and post- operative management of cataract and refractive surgery patients.
Wes Mayes, OD
Dr. Wes Mayes was born and raised in Central City, Kentucky. He completed his undergraduate education at the University of Kentucky. After graduating with a degree in Mathematics, he was accepted into the optometry program at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. While at UAB School of Optometry, he was part of a group of students that provided eye exams for health departments located around Birmingham and completed an internship at the Franklin Primary Health Center in Mobile, AL. He graduated with a Doctorate of Optometry in 2007 and moved to Crestview shortly thereafter. Dr. Mayes has enjoyed providing comprehensive eye care in Crestview for the last 10 years. Dr. Mayes believes that maximizing each patient’s vision is extremely important, and he works hard to provide that through finding the best prescription with glasses and by fitting a wide variety of contact lenses.
Dr Mayes’ wife, Leslie, is an independent consultant with Rodan and Fields skincare. They have three children: Anna and twins, Griffin and Grace. Dr. Mayes enjoys spending time with his family and spends as much time outdoors as possible. He enjoys running and contributes to various charitable organizations by participating in road races. His other hobbies include coaching his kids' sports teams and walking his dogs.
Dr. Mayes provides comprehensive eye care including pediatric eye care, management and treatment of ocular diseases such as diabetic eye disease, glaucoma, macular degeneration, and pre-and post-operative management of cataract and refractive surgery patients. He also provides care and treatment of eye infections, eye allergies, and injuries to the front part of the eye, including removal of corneal foreign bodies.
Dr. Mayes has advanced training and clinical expertise in Dry Eyes, Blepharitis, and Ocular Surface Disease. He utilizes the Lipiview / Lipiflow system to provide the best possible outcomes to patients suffering from these conditions. This is one of the most advanced systems available to patients in need of this treatment.
